I was so excited to find this beautiful package from Sweden sitting at my doorstep yesterday. One of my talented customers sent a beautiful shawl she made and it is just stunning! The intricate pattern she used is from a Scottish designer, Ysolda you can view her website here. The yarn she used is 100% wool and is from a Swedish company fargkraft. It was such a wonderful surprise that I wanted to share it with you! Hope you are having a wonderful day here in New York City it is sunny and there are still a few leaves on the trees. It is the perfect day for a nice long walk before the winter arrives. We had a fun photoshoot yesterday that I will begin posting soon.

Just saw these beautiful books on flavorwire. It’s hard to pick a favorite. I love them all! This reminds me of the Tim Burton exhibit going on at the MoMA and how I can’t wait to see his version of Alice and Wonderland with Johnny Depp.

As a trained Graphic Designer and a closet artist and poet the topic while in school tended to come up a lot. At the time I wasn’t too clear on the real difference’s between the two. However I feel that recently I have experienced the real difference between these two forms of visual expression. I found an interesting article on the AIG site you can read it hear it dates back to 2006, but I don’t think these types of articles ever loose there relevance.

I think for me the simplest way to differentiate the two is that Art has no rules, it represents freedom. Design on the other hand has some rules. And to me though the differences seem slight, freedom vs. not freedom is huge.

After reading that article I read through some of the comments and discovered how people just think to much about all this and have to have big words and smart fancy historic things to say about everything. But at the end of the day Art just is and I think that is how it should stay. That is what keeps it sacred. Especially now in a world were everything is so superficial, commercial about money, status, needing things. It is refreshing and maybe hopeful that art is something we as humans can create that will keep its integrity and ours.

I am reading a wonderful book right now, Tao of Pooh. It is funny how certain books come to you at a time when you feel you need them most. And how fitting that it should be this one. “A well-frog cannot imagine the ocean, nor can a summer insect conceive of ice. How then can a scholar understand the Tao? He is restricted by his own learning.”

Not sure how I have missed this blog the Selby, but it quite a little gem. It’s always fun to get a glimpse into other creatives houses. I love to see how people work and create and interesting space to live in. This couple Fanny Bostrom, artist and Bill Gentle, photographer seemed really fun! And I love the backyard it is my dream to have a backyard like that. They also have some really inspiring work check them out here. Enjoy!

So today I woke up and decided I really wanted to try to use watercolors. I am not sure where this desire came from. But here it is my first creation! I am excited to bring my travel set along with me to the beach. The set is so tiny and cute I just love it!

I love potato stamping. Often I will use the stamps I create to print on cards. But I just found this video on etsy and Lotta uses yams and simple stencils to make beautiful prints. I will have to try this method out. Take a look at her site and her book inspiring work!

Yesterday we rented a zip car, a Mini Cooper to be exact and drove to the beach. I have never been to into cars I seem to only like really old impractical cars. Newer cars just seem so boring and uninspired. What happened? I am no car designer, I mean I don’t even own a car. But at what point did all cars have to look the same? I realize it is important to also have them be economical and fuel efficient. And I think anyone who drives a hummer should be forced to ride a mountain bike for 1oyrs. But that is besides the point. Do cars have to be so boring and ugly? Well thank you Mini for being an interesting, fun car. Maybe one day I will move out of the city so I can buy you!

I enjoyed Miranda July’s button movie so much. For me being able to approach things that we see everyday with a fresh perspective is so refreshing. When it’s your job to do this it can be hard at times. That is why for me it is always good to see other ways of altering the everyday into something interesting and new. I thought the above were some more great examples.
